Laptop question
I'd like to connect my Dell XPS 1730M laptop up to my plasma TV. The laptop only has a DVI connector though and the tv has HDMI. I have a DVI-HDMI adapter so that's no problem, but audio will not go through it if I"m not mistaken.
My question is how can I get audio to my TV? My laptop has dual green audio outs which connect to speakers or headphones. MY TV only seems to have HDMI, S-video, and component cables. Thanks!

I had the same problem and gave up after a while, I'm pretty sure you can only play the sound through your laptop. You could always get external speakers, but that would be a pain. I'm not a pr0 on the subject so hold out for some more experienced users to post what they know :P Just trying to help as much as I can though.

What's your speaker/receiver situation? What I would try: Video you can do DVI to HDMI. I think audio you could run from your laptops 1/8" headphone jack into your receiver and speakers. If you're using TV speakers then I don't think there's many options. Check if you can use HDMI and RCA audio (ignore the video cables) at the same time. I believe the audio jacks on component are regular RCA and you can find 1/8" to RCA cables; although I don't have much hope for this to work.

A basic Google search indicates that there are devices that will combine DVI and audio into an HDMI connection, but they are relatively expensive - ranging around $100-300.
Other than that, I can't add much without knowing any details about the plasma TV. I assume though, that the TV does not have a PC input. However, there are some TVs that will allow you to select what audio source goes with which video source - for example, using an HDMI input but using the audio from a S-video and/or ext audio input.

You can purchase a variety of adapters to fit just about any need, the catch is that you could probably buy a nice set of speakers with a subwoofer for the same price... and get better audio than either your tv or laptop can produce with their speakers.

Yes there's an option to select the audio source... Does a USB-to-Component adapter exist? or 1/8" audio port-to-component?

I'm not sure what you mean by "component". There are lots of 1/8" audio to RCA (the common round jack pair) audio cables available. "Component" usually refers to video connections.
